“A soupçon of classical guitar motifs, conjuring echoes of Yes, add unexpected depth to this vibrant mixture. Meteor Police are a veritable crucible of eclectic influences, a conglomerate of…well, everything.” - Alice Teeple
“New Type Destroyer and Hallowtide Hymns are must listen to records, not just for the post-punk fans, due to their little extra quirks these records will appeal to a wide range of music fans.” - Sarah Jane
“METEOR POLICE has a weird, foreboding vibe to their grungy rock. Their guitars and lyrics noodle, rock, and crawl with a simultaneous playfulness and darkness.” - Dov Malzberg
“Impressively storied, surprisingly uplifting, a coming-of-age record made by people who have the hindsight of those who have already come of age. They’re in perfect ring shape and this record really delivers.” - Michael Detoffoli
In the pandemic spring of 2021, Meteor Police was not the band any of its members were looking to form. Bassist William Pompeo had wanted to start a metal project where he would not be “stuck playing bass again”. Vocalist Shawn Clancy and guitarist Dustin James had already been in several bands together that had prematurely burned out and they weren't looking to go through that pain again. Drummer Justin Wright was tired of supporting other people's visions and wanted to start his own psych rock group. So when these four people met up for a casual jam in Howell NJ, their expectations and ideas should have proven to be insurmountable obstacles. Instead, those expectations were both subverted and exceeded.
Meteor Police is a 4 piece rock band based in Ocean County, New Jersey that was formed in April of 2021. They released their debut album “NEW TYPE DESTROYER” in July 2023 and followed that with the “Hallowtide Hymns” EP in October of that same year. Their music is often described as rhythm heavy with elements of both alternative and noise rock. When pressed to define a sub-genre for themselves, the band usually says “post-something” as a nod to their post-punk and post-hardcore tendencies and general DIY spirit. They have been compared to a eclectic range of rock groups from Fugazi to Rage Against the Machine to the B-52's. They write songs that are equal parts defeated, snarky, and hopeful in opposition to the rapidly plasticizing world around them.
The band spent most of 2025 and early 2026 recording new music and tightening up their already polished live performance. With a new album ready for release and a burning need to show off their new material, Meteor Police is poised to achieve new heights in 2026 and beyond. The current musical trends continue to skew more and more digital with rock bands releasing music so polished and quantized that it is difficult to tell if humans are actually performing it. Meteor Police also enjoys experimenting with sampling and sequencing, but firmly believes that the core of the music should be raw human expression, no matter how difficult that can be to achieve sometimes. In this world that is increasingly becoming obsessed with artificial perfection, the band is placing its faith in authenticity and the ugly truth.
